McMichael will no doubt be looking for a significant pay increase after spending this campaign on his entry-level deal that paid him just $863,333. The 23-year-old Ontario native appeared in 80 games for the Caps, often in a second-line center role, while racking up 18 goals and 15 helpers. Looking ahead to next season, McMichael should be capable of reaching both the 20-goal and 40-point thresholds.

McMichael found himself in the Capitals' lineup more often than not during his rookie season in 2021-22, ultimately appearing in 68 of the club's 82 regular-season games. His offensive production (9 goals, 18 points) was limited, but that's understandable considering he barely averaged 10 minutes of ice time per contest (10:28) and never saw any time with the man advantage. McMichael was a jack-of-all-trades center during his junior days with OHL London, but it appears as if the Capitals plan on deploying him in a defensive role in the early stages of his pro career, a decision that will substantially limit his fantasy appeal.
