NFL Waiver Wire: Chiefs Go West

NFL Waiver Wire: Chiefs Go West

This article is part of our NFL Waiver Wire series.

QUARTERBACK

Primary Targets

Blake Bortles, JAC - If you were to rank quarterbacks for the rest of the season, there's a strong argument Bortles would belong in the top 10. Outside of a tough matchup Week 1 against Carolina, he has averaged 279 passing yards with more than two touchdown passes per game. He has two legitimate weapons in Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, and the return of Julius Thomas will help as well. The schedule shapes up nicely as the divisional games feature terrible defenses, and the only tough game looks like the Jets Week 9. Believe it or not (and byes have influence here), Bortles has scored the sixth-most fantasy points this season in most standard formats yet is roughly 25 percent owned. FAAB: $10-15

RUNNING BACK

Primary Targets

Charcandrick West, KC - Here's the guy with the biggest buzz of the week on the waiver wire. Jamaal Charles is out for the season with a torn ACL, leaving both West and Knile Davis to pick up the slack. Between the two, West was already getting work with Charles in the lineup and appears to be the more attractive option. West is considered a better receiver and finished Sunday's games with nine touches compared to Davis' two. This is a rare opportunity to get a starting running back who at least gets the majority of the work in a timeshare and could put together 11 productive games the rest of the season. FAAB for West:

Charcandrick West, KC - Here's the guy with the biggest buzz of the week on the waiver wire. Jamaal Charles is out for the season with a torn ACL, leaving both West and Knile Davis to pick up the slack. Between the two, West was already getting work with Charles in the lineup and appears to be the more attractive option. West is considered a better receiver and finished Sunday's games with nine touches compared to Davis' two. This is a rare opportunity to get a starting running back who at least gets the majority of the work in a timeshare and could put together 11 productive games the rest of the season. FAAB for West: $30-60 (more if need be); FAAB for Davis: $8-12 (as a speculative add in case coach Andy Reid goes with the hot hand)

Antonio Andrews, TEN -
The bye week apparently made people forget about Andrews, who gets the goal-line work for the Titans. He scored Sunday for the second game in a row and has been used in the passing game, as well. In a timeshare with Bishop Sankey, Andrews should continue to see double-digit touches every week. Getting the goal-line work matters, and it helps that Marcus Mariota looks more like a veteran than a rookie. FAAB: $8-12

Hail Mary

Theo Riddick, DET - A combination of game flow and a couple of Ameer Abdullah miscues opened up more playing time for both Riddick and Zach Zenner on Sunday. Riddick finished with 10 catches for 53 yards and found the end zone. This was his fourth consecutive game with at least five receptions, though it's worth noting he only has two carries this season. Abdullah should continue to get the starting nod despite a slow start, but Riddick will continue to see work in the passing game. Depending on the league, Zenner is worth an add as a $1 or FCFS player. FAAB: $1-2

WIDE RECEIVER

Primary Targets

Willie Snead, NO - Snead is a repeat offender in this column as he appeared as a secondary option last week. However, this week's performance was worthy of mentioning him again for a few reasons. First, he had 146 receiving yards, and although much of it came in garbage time, he appears to be developing some chemistry with Drew Brees. The other factor is Marques Colston seperated his shoulder and could have structural damage. Finally, after getting a team-high 11 targets against the Eagles, he has at least six targets in each of his last four games. He's owned in 43 percent of all leagues on Yahoo, so he might not be available. FAAB: $10-15

Secondary Targets

Marquess Wilson, CHI - The loss of Eddie Royal in addition to the injured Alshon Jeffery thrust Wilson into the No. 1 wide receiver role for the Bears on Sunday. For the second straight game Wilson had six catches for at least 80 yards, and he scored Sunday, as well. He'd be thought of higher if it was certain both Royal and Jeffery were going to miss more time. However, both could return to the field this week and curtail the potential fantasy value of Wilson. Still, should either miss this week, Wilson would be again a top target for Jay Cutler. FAAB: $6-10

Hail Mary

Josh Huff, PHI -Sam Bradford spread the ball around the last two games and is finally showing some success in the Chip Kelly system. Huff was one of the beneficiaries of Bradford's passing, scoring his first touchdown of the season to go with 78 receiving yards. This was his first showing in the offense since the first two weeks when he had only two catches in each game. It's hard to imagine him having a big role, but an injury or two could push him into a more relevant role. FAAB: $1-2

TIGHT ENDS

Primary Targets

Jacob Tamme, ATL - Defenses are doing anything and everything to slow Julio Jones, leaving open areas on the field for the Falcons' other receivers to work. Tamme had a big game Sunday with eight catches for 94 and was targeted 10 times. The problem is it's tough to imagine Tamme being a consistent producer. He has two games this season with a total of four catches for 27 yards and two games with a total of 12 catches for 161 yards. Still, he has carved out a role in this offense and should get 5-8 targets a week provided teams keep rolling coverage toward Julio. FAAB: $6-10
