Yahoo DFS Basketball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Guard

Jaylen Brown, BOS at DAL ($19): Brown has been going bonkers over the last two weeks, and Yahoo has been slow to adjust to his rise in form. Not only does he have at least 29 fantasy points in five straight games, he's collected 76.2 fantasy points across his last two outings. That's what you'd expect from a $30 player, let alone one below $20. The minutes and usage should help him continue to exploit these matchups, as he has a usage rate north of 21 percent while averaging 33 minutes per game.

Mario Chalmers, MEM vs. POR ($14): With Mike Conley expected to miss the next two weeks, Chalmers has taken over starting point guard duties. He's been great in Conley's place, averaging 27 fantasy points across his last three games. That's incredible production from a near-minimum priced player and he gets a solid matchup here too. Chalmers will be squared up with Damian Lillard, who is a below average defender at best.

Guard to Avoid

Dennis Schroder, ATL at SAN ($34): Schroder's production has been down a bit over recent weeks, and he has one of the toughest matchups possible on this slate. Not only does San Antonio rank fifth in defensive efficiency, they rank third in terms of slowest pace. That means less fantasy points and less possessions, which is what a high-usage player like Schroder needs to be productive. That becomes even more concerning when you consider the fact that San Antonio are a double-digit favorite, and Schroder might not even play 30 minutes if the game gets out of hand. Not to mention, Schroder has only surpassed 28 fantasy points once in his last four games.

Forward

Thaddeus Young, IND at ORL ($22): Young has been quietly consistent all season, and he's averaging nearly 28 fantasy points per game for the year. He's been especially good this last week, scoring 33 fantasy points in back-to-back games. The most intriguing part about using Young may be the matchup though, as he faces an Orlando defense that is allowing the sixth most fantasy points to opposing power forwards. The fact that Young is averaging 28 fantasy points at $22 is enough incentive to use him, but the matchup makes him impossible to ignore.

Wilson Chandler, DEN at SAC ($15): Chandler got off to a slow start this season, but he's really starting to turn it on over the last week. Not only has he surpassed 33 fantasy points in back-to-back games, Chandler is averaging over 36 minutes played across his last three games. A player who has regularly averaged 25 fantasy points throughout his career playing about 35 minutes should be a $25 player, but we get quite the bargain being able to use Chandler at just $15. In addition, he faces a Kings team who have the third worst defense in the league based on efficiency ratings.

Forward to Avoid

Khris Middleton, MIL vs. WSH ($32): Middleton has seen a decrease in production since Eric Bledsoe joined the team, and his price has yet to drop to where it should be. While he does have a 50 fantasy point performance just two games ago, that's the only time Middleton has surpassed 30 fantasy points in his last five games. What's really evident is his drop in role, as Middleton's usage rate is south of 22 percent across that five game span. That simply means the shots and ball-handling aren't prevalent enough for a player that will cost you 16 percent of your budget.

Center

Al Horford, BOS at DAL ($29): Horford has been underpriced on Yahoo for years now, as they refuse to raise his salary above $30. It's hard to understand why, as he's averaging 33 fantasy points a game for the season. His consistency is hard to overlook, as Horford has scored at least 26 fantasy points in all but one game this season. The matchup is tasty as well, considering that Dallas have no legitimate center who can match up with Horford.

Willie Cauley-Stein, SAC vs. DEN ($14): Cauley-Stein has really turned it on over his last two games, as he's collected 80 fantasy points in 64 minutes of action. Those are unbelievable numbers from a $14 player, and it appears the Kings are finally ready to give their young stud a bigger role. That's evident by his team-leading 27.8 percent usage rate across those two games, and he gets a spectacular matchup here against Denver. In fact, the Nuggets are allowing the second most fantasy points to opposing centers this season.

Center to Avoid

Jusuf Nurkic, POR at MEM ($29): Nurkic is one of the only players on the board who is averaging fewer fantasy points per game than his salary, and that's a simple way to recognize he's overvalued. He's been especially bad recently, averaging under 23 fantasy points across his last six games. That poor form is enough incentive to avoid him, but the fact that he faces a stout Memphis defense adds to the muck. In fact, the Grizzlies rank top five in fantasy points allowed to centers across the last two seasons, as they ride defensive stud Marc Gasol at that position.
