DraftKings MLB: Friday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

Pitcher

Jeff Samardzija, SF vs. ARI ($8,500): The Diamondbacks become a different team on the road, where they sport a bottom-10 wOBA (.303) to go along with a 24.3 percent strikeout rate. Samardzija owns a 24.5 percent strikeout rate this season, and has put up at least 29.4 DraftKings points in two of his last three starts, giving him the upside of an elite pitcher at a bargain price.

Charlie Morton, HOU vs. SEA ($8,100): Morton's curveball has registered a 12.3 RAA this season, the fourth highest mark among pitchers who have thrown at least 120 innings. The Mariners have notched a bottom-10 RAA against the bender while notching just a 7.6 percent walk rate against right-handed hurlers.

Catcher

Yan Gomes, CLE vs. KC ($3,400): Those who are interested in grabbing the top-tier pitching options on the main slate will need to look for multiple value plays to fill out their roster. Gomes is an example of such an asset, as he has tallied a .245 ISO and a 39.7 percent hard contact rate against left-handed pitching over 102 at-bats. Opposing starter Jason Vargas has been hammered to the tune of a 7.27 ERA and a .584 slugging percentage against in 52 innings after the All-Star break.

First Base

Josh Bell, PIT at CIN ($3,700): Reds starter Homer Bailey hasn't fared well in any environment this season, but his struggles have reached their peak at Great American Ball Park, where the right-hander has kept an 8.90 ERA and a .620 slugging percentage against over 31.1 innings. Meanwhile, Bell has logged a .224 ISO and a .353 wOBA against right-handers over 380 at-bats.

Second Base

Rougned Odor, TEX at LAA ($3,500):Andrew Heaney will have his start skipped due to a shoulder injury, allowing Bud Norris to make his first start of the season. Norris has thrown the ball well in his role out of the bullpen, but has walked 14 left-handed batters over 23.2 innings. Odor has notched a .237 ISO against righties, and will likely face multiple relief pitchers in the contest, as Norris hasn't recorded more than four outs in an appearance since April 11.

Third Base

Luis Valbuena, LAA vs. TEX ($3,300): Valbuena has quietly been one of the best power hitters in the league since the All-Star break, logging 15 homers and a .383 ISO over 44 games. Nick Martinez has allowed a .503 slugging percentage against lefties while striking out just 26 batters over 41.2 innings.

Shortstop

Didi Gregorius, NYY vs. BAL ($4,500):Gabriel Ynoa has allowed a .641 slugging percentage against lefties over 9.1 innings with the big club after notching a 5.25 ERA in 106.1 innings with Triple-A Norfolk. Gregorius has shown the best power numbers of his career in 2017, logging a .221 ISO against righties over 344 at-bats.

Outfield

Jose Bautista, TOR at MIN ($3,800):Bartolo Colon should be looked at as a stack target whenever he takes the mound, as his fastball has registered a -28.2 RAA this season, which represents the worst mark in the league among pitchers who have thrown at least 120 innings. Bautista has had a poor offensive season in 2017 by his standards, but still owns a .179 ISO and a 34.6 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching.

Mookie Betts, BOS at TB ($5,500):Matt Andriese has kept a reverse platoon split this season, having allowed a .591 slugging percentage to righty hitters over 37.1 innings. Betts has logged a .292 ISO over 48 at-bats in September while notching a .365 wOBA over that span.

Cody Bellinger, LAD at WAS ($5,100):Edwin Jackson has registered a -5.6 RAA with his fastball while allowing a .446 slugging percentage to left-handed hitters. This is good news for Bellinger, who has logged an 8.0 RAA against the heater while tallying a .343 ISO against righty pitchers.
