Ray Black Jr.

Black made just five starts last season in the No. 07 Chevrolet of SS Green Light Racing. The veteran driver earned his first-career Xfinity Series Top 10 (Daytona) as well as two Top-20 finishes in those limited starts. This team normally employs multiple drivers to race a full season schedule, and that will likely be the case again in 2021. As of this writing Black has not been named to the car in the upcoming season, but it would not be a surprise if he's involved in some capacity.

Black took over the No. 07 Chevrolet of SS Green Light Racing last season and posted a steady campaign for this race team in 2019. He posted eight Top-15 and 22 Top-20 finishes. While Brown was slowed by six DNF's he still posted a respectable 20.5 average finish for the campaign. It was a good first season to grow on for Black and this race team. Black was confirmed to be back in the car last November, so contractually things were worked out pretty quickly at the end of last season. Jason Miller will return at crew chief, and the duo will look to grow on the momentum they started in 2019.

Black has been signed to race the full season with SS Greenlight Racing in 2019. He ran just 10 events last year for former boss, B.J. McLeod, so this is a good step up for the journeyman driver. Black nabbed just three Top-20 finishes in his part-time schedule last season, and he'll be expected to do more with this growing race team.

The Rick Ware Racing team announced a mid-December deal that will put Black in the No. 51 car for the upcoming season. He will be a Rookie of the Year candidate since he only has three-career starts in NASCAR's top division, although he'll be a long-shot odds to win the honor. Black made three starts with this team last season and averaged a 37.3 finish across those handful of starts. A lot of the team's details are sketchy at this point, including crew chief and some of the sponsorship, however, RWR does have a charter for this team and they are guaranteed to start the full season. As far as Black and this team's chances go, well it is about as shoestring as an operation gets in NASCAR's top division.

After years of competition in the Camping World Truck Series, SS Green Light Racing will make their first full-time foray into the Xfinity Series in 2016. They bring with them young driver Black for this first campaign. The 24-year-old Floridian raced the full truck series schedule for SS GLR in 2015 and finished a respectable 11th in the final driver standings. Jason Miller is expected to be the team’s crew chief, and he’ll face an uphill battle trying to get the team established and get Black more experience. We don’t expect to see the No. 07 Chevrolet among the Top-20 finishers very much in the coming year.
