UFC legend announces retirement
WelterweightUFC
July 2, 2022
Cerrone lost to Jim Miller via submission (guillotine choke) at 1:22 of Round 2 at UFC 276 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
The end result of the fight is secondary, as Cerrone, one of the most beloved figures in the history of the sport, announced his retirement following the bout. In a very brief, candid post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Cowboy simply confirmed he "didn't love fighting" anymore and plans to go be a movie star. It's difficult to argue with the decision. Cerrone turned 39 years of age in March and finished his UFC run with a seven-fight (0-6, 1NC) winless streak. A long-time WEC veteran, Cerrone make his UFC debut against Paul Kelly at UFC 126 in February 2011. His final record with the company is 23-14 (1NC). Included in that stretch are victories over Charles Oliveira, Jeremy Stephens, Edson Barboza, Eddie Alvarez, Benson Henderson, Al Iaquinta and Miller, when the two first met in July 2014. Cowboy's next stop is the UFC Hall of Fame.

WelterweightUFC
February 15, 2022
Cerrone's upcoming fight against Joe Lauzon has been bumped back to May 7, MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The reason for the shift is unclear. It shouldn't significantly change either fighter's preparation, as the date has only been moved back by one week. The fight will come just one day shy of a year after Cerrone's previous trip to the Octagon, a first-round TKO loss to Alex Morono.
