Joins Barracuda Championship field
July 30, 2018
Peterson will be in the field for this week's Barracuda Championship, Rob Bolton of PGATour.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Peterson, who announced that he'd likely retire earlier this month after barely missing conditional status, received a sponsor exemption to be in the field this week. He's also essentially a lock to qualify for the Web.com Tour Finals, so maybe he won't be retiring after all.

The former LSU star played 15 events under a major medical extension last season, finished 174th in the point standings. He still has eight tournaments left to keep his card by earning $375,165 or accruing 273.760 FedEx Cup points. That's certainly doable, but far from certain. Peterson, 28, earned nearly $330,000 in those 15 events, when he made seven cuts, three of which were top-25s. His best was a T12 at Phoenix. Peterson just competed in the Web.com Tour Finals but didn't do well enough to earn his card there.
Peterson missed most of the season with a left hand injury and was trying to play his way back on Tour via the Web.com Tour finals. If he doesn't make it, his starts will be severely limited, severely limiting his value (which wasn't great to begin with).
A star golfer out of LSU, Peterson won the Web.com Tour finals last year to become a touted PGA Tour rookie. And he proceeded to fall flat, making only seven of 25 cuts. But he used another strong Web.com playoffs, with one second-place check, to get back to the Show. At only 25, he may have just needed to take his lumps for a year, so expect a better effort than 179th in the FEC standings. But how much better is the big question. Making the top 125 will be a close call.
Peterson gets another crack at PGA Tour via the Web.com Tour. Had some success a few years back, but don't expect too much this season.
