Weekly Rankings: Week 2 Value Meter

This article is part of our Weekly Rankings series.

Sunday Update Complete. Check our 'Latest News' page for any late-breaking developments.

Here are our rankings for the coming week at each position to help you decide your starting lineup. Our rankings are based on the following scoring system: four points for a passing touchdown; six points for a rushing/receiving touchdown; one point for every 20 passing yards; and one point for every 10 rushing/receiving yards. Flex Rankings are for PPR leagues.

Typically, this article will be posted on Tuesday evenings, roughly around 7:00 pm PT. ***These are not draft rankings. They are solely for the given week of the season.***

I will update these during the week, usually twice per week to account for injury or other news during practice. The timing of those updates will vary based on the news at hand and my schedule for the given week. But the first of those updates usually won't happen until Thursday. At any rate, I will post a "last updated" note at the top of the article, or an "update in progress" note if it's while I'm doing it. If there is no such note, that means it's my first pass at the rankings for this current week.

By all means, if you want to discuss a rank, or want me to add a player, chime in on the comments. I try to be receptive to your feedback and try to respond to most comments, though on occasion the volume can be quite thick. Please refer to the rankings

Please refer to the rankings first when asking "should I start Player A vs. Player B?". And then refer to the rankings again before asking a generic starting decision question. My response will correspond with the rankings.

Quarterback

1.Cam Newton CAR vs. SF
Note: Had a number of hits to the head in the loss to Denver, but wasn't placed in the concussion protocol this week.
2.Ben Roethlisberger PIT vs. Cin
3.Eli Manning NYG vs. NO
4.Blake Bortles JAC at SD
5.Drew Brees NO at NYG
6.Derek Carr OAK vs. Atl
Note: Carr took advantage of a great matchup to average 8.4 yards per attempt against the Saints. He gets another nice opponent at home against the Falcons this week.
7.Aaron Rodgers GB at Min
Note: Averaged only 5.9 yards per attempt in the win over the Jaguars, with just two plays over 22 yards. But his rushing touchdown still made it a productive fantasy day.
8.Carson Palmer ARZ vs. TB
9.Kirk Cousins WAS vs. Dal
Note: Frequently underthrew his receivers on Monday night.
10.Jameis Winston TB at Ari
11.Matt Ryan ATL at Oak
Note: Ryan had 39 attempts in Week 1 and could be throwing more often generally this year if the Falcons' running game remains stumbling, and especially if the defense continues to stink.
12.Andy Dalton CIN at Pit
13.*Andrew Luck IND at Den
Note: Full practice Wednesday - not listed on the injury report from the remnants of last week's shoulder issue. His ranking here is solely a function of opponent. Another full practice Friday after limited work Thursday.
14.Matthew Stafford DET vs. Ten
15.Carson Wentz PHI at Chi
Note: Solid debut against the Browns, averaging 7.5 yards per attempt. It looks as if he'll be without Zach Ertz in Week 2.
16.Joe Flacco BAL at Cle
17.Jay Cutler CHI vs. Phi
18.Brock Osweiler HOU vs. KC
19.Trevor Siemian DEN vs. Ind
20.Marcus Mariota TEN at Det
Note: Two big turnovers returned for touchdowns in the loss to the Vikings, which made the difference in the game.
21.Jimmy Garoppolo NE vs. Mia
22.*Russell Wilson SEA at LA
Note: Sprained his left ankle in the win over the Dolphins. The initial prediction by the Seahawks is that Wilson will be able to start against the Rams in Week 2. Rookie Trevone Boykin is the backup. Full participant in Wednesday's practice - the Seahawks reiterated that they expect him to start. ***Practiced in full all week, not listed on the final injury report.***
23.Ryan Fitzpatrick NYJ at Buf
24.*Sam Bradford MIN vs. GB
Note: The Vikings have said that they aren't naming a starter yet, but Bradford got all the first-team reps in Wednesday's practice. ***Expected to start, though official announcement still hasn't come. Still, this ranking reflects that expectation.***
25.Ryan Tannehill MIA at NE
26.Philip Rivers SD vs. Jax
Note: Losing Keenan Allen is a devastating loss for Rivers and the Chargers' offense.
27.Alex Smith KC at Hou
28.Dak Prescott DAL at Was
Note: Threw the ball 45 times in the loss to the Giants, but only five of those to Dez Bryant, rarely working down the field.
29.Blaine Gabbert SF at Car
30.Tyrod Taylor BUF vs. NYJ
Note: Terrible start against a Ravens' defense that wasn't considered particularly tough - just 111 passing yards, no scores, and 11 rushing yards. Now he gets a short week to prepare for the Jets.
31.*Josh McCown CLE vs. Bal
Note: Will start for the Browns after RG3 injured his shoulder and was placed on IR to return. Cody Kessler will be the backup.
32.Case Keenum LA vs. Sea
33.*Shaun Hill MIN vs. GB
Note: No turnovers in the win over the Titans, but no offensive touchdowns generated either. It's just a matter of time before Bradford starts, but Hill is listed as the starter on the depth chart for now. Bradford took all the first-team reps in Wednesday's practice.
34.*Robert Griffin CLE vs. Bal
Note: Placed on IR to return with an injured left shoulder, will be re-evaluated in 3-to-4 weeks. ***Expected to miss 10-12 weeks.***

Note: ***Expected to get more of a workload going forward, judging by coach Hue Jackson's comments.***

31.*Theo Riddick DET vs. Ten
Note: Passed a concussion test early in the second half in the win over the Colts, came back and made a few more big plays.

38.Matt Jones WAS vs. Dal
