Ellis returns to the Ravens after showing well in 2020. He logged 17 tackles in 13 games and played 358 snaps, which was his most since 2017. He adds depth to the interior behind Brandon Williams.
Ellis got paid by the Raiders this offseason, earning a three-year contract extension worth more than $15 million. It's not too much of an investment for the fourth-rounder with just $6 million guaranteed, but he was rewarded for logging a career-high 48 tackles in 2017. He's slated to once again start at nose tackle, though rookies P.J. Hall and Maurice Hurst could push for additional snaps at defensive tackle.
Ellis made at least one tackle in 12 of the Raiders’ 16 games throughout the 2016 season, but he never reached IDP relevance with a total of 21 tackles and zero sacks. He’s in line for a depth role once again in 2017, with the Raiders drafting defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes out of UCLA in the third round. Ellis will be competing with Vanderdoes and Darius Latham for snaps on the interior of the defensive line.
Ellis was selected by the Raiders in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and he had an impressive rookie season for the Oakland defense. The 24-year old defensive tackle started to see more snaps as the season progressed and he ended his rookie campaign with 21 total tackles. He's currently listed as the starter at left defensive tackle on the Raiders' depth chart in the base 4-3 defense. At 6-foot-2, 335 pounds, Ellis should provide good stability in the middle of the Raiders' defensive front.
A fourth-round pick out of Louisiana Tech, Ellis is a load at 6-1, 334 pounds, and he could end up seeing a fair number of the snaps if defensive coordinator Jason Tarver deploys the 3-4 a bit more this season. That said, Ellis recorded just 2.5 sacks in his four-year collegiate career, so his fantasy upside is limited.
