Will not play in bowl game
December 20, 2016
Linwood will not play in Baylor's upcoming bowl game, John Werner of the Waco Tribune-Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Linwood is the latest NFL hopeful running back to opt out of playing in their team's bowl game, joining LSU's Leonard Fournette and Stanford's Christian McCaffrey. However, unlike Fournette and McCaffrey, Linwood is more of a mid-to-late round prospect. Linwood took 138 carries for 751 yards (5.44 YPC) and two touchdowns in his senior season, but he had rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his previous two seasons. Look for Terence Williams and JaMycal Hasty to see the majority of the carries against Boise State in the Cactus Bowl.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2014
Baylor averaged 326 yards per game on the ground last season, ranking second in the nation, and Linwood was a big reason why. The 5-9, 200 pound back torched opposing defenses for 1,329 yards and 10 touchdowns on 196 carries (6.78 YPC). Baylor once again looks primed to have a menacing run game this season, but Linwood’s time as the unquestioned lead back may have run its course. Johnny Jefferson’s torrid end of the 2015 season may have put him atop the RB depth chart, but if not, he’ll still cut into Linwood’s carries this year. Still, even if Linwood’s workload drops, he should still be a lock for well over 100 carries and plenty of red zone carries. If he’s able to maintain his per-carry efficiency, Linwood should still have a fantasy relevant campaign in 2016 -- it’s just difficult to imagine him pushing for 200 carries again in that crowded backfield.
Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin are both gone from last year's Baylor squad, leaving behind 278 carries. Linwood (5-8, 200) seems like the top candidate to pick up most of that work, as he earned 128 carries a year ago, rushing for 881 yards (6.9 YPC) and eight touchdowns. Linwood could exceed 200 carries this season, giving him the opportunity to produce at least 1,200 on the ground and double-digit touchdowns. Baylor doesn't throw to its running back much – Linwood, Seastrunk and Martin combined for five catches last year – so Linwood loses values in PPR leagues.
