FAAB Factor - AL: Oh Captain, My Captain

Starting Pitchers:

Felix Doubront, Red Sox - Doubront is expected to rejoin the Red Sox rotation this week against Toronto. The team wants to keep him stretched out, while he pitches mainly out of the bullpen. On the season he has a 4.15 ERA (4.07 xFIP) with 135 strikeouts and 66 walks over 154 innings. On the season as a starter though, he has a 3.93 ERA (4.09 xFIP) over 148.2 innings. His last start was on the 6th this month, in which he gave up six earned runs over just 3.2 innings. His previous start he gave up four earned runs over another 3.2 innings. Hopefully the rest gave him some time to refocus. Mixed: $5; AL: $20.

Jason Hammel, Orioles - Bud Norris is currently dealing with elbow discomfort, which is never good news for a pitcher. As such, Hammel had to make a start in Norris' place in Toronto. In that start he gave up three earned runs over five innings with two strikeouts and one walk. He could make another start in Norris' place, if his elbow woes continue. On season he has a 5.12 ERA (4.65 xFIP) with 88 strikeouts and 48 walks over 130 innings. He's a shaky option at best this week against the Red Sox, which is where he'd slot in for Norris. Mixed: $1; AL: $5.

Tommy Milone, A's - Milone was forced to make an emergency start this Sunday for Jarrod Parker, who is dealing with an illness. Milone was a starter for much of the season with the A's, before being removed from their rotation, in favor of Sonny Gray. The move is understandable as Milone has a 4.31 ERA (4.34 xFIP) with 110 strikeouts and 37 walks over 144 innings. Parker is considered day-to-day right now, but should he miss more time, Milone would likely fill in for him again. Either way, Milone shouldn't be trusted in many mixed leagues. Mixed: $1; AL: $5.

Todd Redmond, Blue Jays - After a couple of bumpy starts, Redmond got back on track this week, when he allowed only one earned run over 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks to the Orioles. He now has a 4.10 ERA (3.99 xFIP) with 66 strikeouts and 19 walks over 63.2 innings. As you can tell from the strikeouts and innings, he's been effective at missing bats this season. If he's still available in your leagues, he's worth considering these last two weeks. This week he faces the Yankees at home. Mixed: $10; AL: $40.

Esmil Rogers, Blue Jays - Over his last six starts Rogers has a 2.62 ERA with 27 strikeouts and eight walks over 34.1 innings. On the season he has a 4.47 ERA, as he's shown inconsistent command and a propensity to give up home runs, often in bunches. This week he gets the Red Sox on the road, which is a terrible matchup, so owners might want to consider sitting him, if possible, this coming week. Mixed: $8; AL: $32.

Relief Pitchers:

Josh Fields & Joshua Zeid, Astros - The Astros are the only AL club with much movement in their bullpen around their closer position as of late. Fields had been the closer most often used lately and has done well to convert his last three save chances, but didn't stop manager Bo Porter from going to Zeid this week to get a four out save. Neither pitcher has been particularly effective at putting away hitters, and they'd likely never see save chances on any other team. Still, saves are saves and if you're in a tight race for saves in your league, the two are worth considering. Fields has a 5.73 ERA (4.01 xFIP) with 34 strikeouts and 14 walks over 33 innings, while Zeid has a 4.87 ERA (4.46 xFIP) with 13 strikeouts and 10 walks over 20.1 innings. Fields Mixed: $10; AL: $40. Zeid Mixed: $5; AL: $20.

Catchers:

Cody Clark, Carlos Corporan, & Matt Pagnozzi, Astros - With Jason Castro still out with a knee issue, the Astros have started to churn through different backstops. In the last week they've used mostly Corporan and Clark, but also Pagnozzi, with no clear best option. Pagnozzi came over from the Braves earlier this month, when he was at Triple-A Gwinnett. There he had a .210/.274/.314 batting line with six homers over 321 PA. At 30 years old, he can be ignored in almost all formats. As for Clark, he's he's very limited offensively and just this season made his MLB debut, at 31 years old. He hit .217/.258/.273 with one homer over 158 PA at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. Corporan is the most known commodity of the bunch. He also has the most power with seven homers over 178 PA this season. Castro is expected back this season, but even when he does come back, the team will not want to work him hard, so expect this trio to keep getting starts. Clark & Pagnozzi Mixed: No; AL: $2. Corporan Mixed: $2; AL: $10.

Josmil Pinto, Twins - Pinto has only played 10 games for the Twins, but he's made an impact, batting .412/.459/.647 with five doubles and a homer over 37 PA. He's getting significant playing time right now because Joe Mauer remains out with a concussion and the team has decided to stop playing Ryan Doumit behind the plate. This season between Double-A New Britain and Triple-A Rochester, he hit .309/.400/.482 with 15 homers over 528 PA. He's only 24 years old, but isn't considered a prospect that owners need to covet. Mixed: $5; AL: $20.

Corner Infielders:

Jeff Baker, Rangers - Baker has started three of the last seven games for the Rangers at first base, as the team tries to deal with the slumping Mitch Moreland. Slumping might a bit of an understatement, as Moreland is 3-of-34 over the last two weeks and 13-of-73 over the last month. Baker hasn't been hitting much as of late (3-of-17 over the last two weeks), so it's not like he is forcing the issue right now. Still, until Moreland starts hitting, there's reason to believe Baker's playing time could increase in the waning days of the season. Mixed: $3; AL: $12.

Daric Barton, A's - Barton has seen plenty of at-bats, as the A's starting first baseman since coming up late last month, but this week he really warmed up, going 8-for-18. He has now hit .349/.400/.419 with one homer, since coming back up on August 26. If he's still available in your mixed league, he's worth a look as a corner or utility bat. He lacks for power, but is getting playing time and will only sit against LHPs. Mixed: $6; AL: $24.

Chris Parmelee, Twins - Parmelee was recalled from Triple-A Rochester last Sunday and started three games this week at first base for the Twins. At Rochester he hit .231/.318/.370 with three homers and one stolen base over 198 PA. He had actually been up with the Twins earlier this season and has hit .222/.307/.365 with eight homers and one stolen base over 287 PA. At neither stop has he hit particularly well and at 25 years old, he's likely just around to offer organizational depth. Chris Colabello also seen time at first base recently, but has been very streaky and cold as of late, so it wouldn't surprise to see the team offer Parmelee more time these last two weeks. Mixed: $2; AL: $8.

Andrew Romine, Angels - Romine has started five consecutive games at third base for the Angels, as the Luis Jimenez deals with a thumb/shoulder injury that he is still not recovered from. Until Jimenez is ready to return, Romine will likely continue to get playing time, though the return of Howie Kendrick could shift Grant Green over to third and eat into Romine's playing time. Earlier this season at Triple-A Salt Lake, Romine hit .287/367/.391 with four homers and 15 stolen bases over 416 PA. He offers some speed, but the power is really lacking, especially if he's going to stay at third base for the remainder of the season. Mixed: $2; AL: $8.

Middle Infielders:

Munenori Kawasaki, Blue Jays - Kawasaki started a couple of games this week at second base for the Blue Jays, over Ryan Goins, who hasn't done much at the plate, since getting the job when Maicer Izturis went down. On the season, Kawasaki has hit .226/.324/.311 with one homer and seven stolen bases over 254 PA, which is to say he hasn't hit at all. This isn't a surprise, as he's known for his glove and unique personality more than anything, neither of which helps fantasy owners. Should he continue to get playing time, Kawasaki might help your runs total, but other than that, he's a hollow batting average liability. Mixed: $1; AL: $4.

Howie Kendrick, Angels - Kendrick was activated from the DL on Tuesday this week, after dealing with a knee injury that kept him out for over a month. On the season he's hit .301/.341/.437 with 11 homers and six stolen bases over 460 PA, so he's likely owned in most all AL formats, despite his lengthy DL stint. He offers a little bit of power and speed, so if he's still out there in mixed leagues, he's definitely worth adding to your roster. Mixed: $20; AL: Owned.

Eduardo Nunez, Yankees - Alex Rodriguez has been dealing with a hamstring injury that has forced him to hit primarily out of the DH position. This has forced Nunez to shift over to third base, though he could shift back to shortstop, if A-Rod's health improves. He has very good speed, but hasn't shown it much this season with inconsistent playing time. Back in 2011, he stole 22 bases over 338 PA. This season he has hit .253/.306/.349 with one homer and nine stolen bases over 292 PA. Mixed: $5; AL: $20.

Brendan Ryan, Yankees - The Captain, Derek Jeter, is done for the season with an ankle injury, which means that the aforementioned Nunez and Ryan will cover the left side of the Yankees infield defense. Ryan has limited speed with very little power, so it's tough to see how he can help owners much these last two weeks, despite his playing time. Moreover, he has trouble making contact and getting on base. For the season he's hit .196/.255/.276 with four homers and four stolen bases over 302 PA. Mixed: $2; AL: $8.

Marcus Semien, White Sox - Semien has started four straight games for the Pale Hose, between second and third base. He was called up last week, but didn't see much time, until now. Between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte he hit .284/.401/.479 with 19 homers and 24 stolen bases over 625 PA. Over his last three games he's 5-for-12 with a double and stolen base, so he's starting to contribute. At 22 years old, he's considered something of a prospect, so those in AL keeper leagues should consider him than just a late season fill-in. Mixed: $5; AL: $20.

Outfielders:

Jim Adduci & Craig Gentry, Rangers - Adduci and Gentry have started splitting time in left field with David Murphy, who has struggled this season. Adduci came up, when rosters expanded earlier this month, but has only now started to get playing time. At Triple-A Round Rock this season he hit .298/.381/.463 with 16 homers and 32 stolen bases over 551 PA. At 28 years old, he is not considered a prospect. When he does play, which is sparingly, he'll be a potential to help owners with his speed. For Gentry, he's a similar player with his speed, though he's a much more experienced hitter in the majors. On the season he's hit .249/.349/.356 with two homers and 14 stolen bases over 240 PA. Both - Mixed: $2; AL: $8.

Nick Castellanos, Tigers - Castellanos was called up last week, but has only started to get some playing time this week with two starts in left field. Andy Dirks is still getting the lion's share of the time there, so unless you're in an AL only league or very deep mixed league, you might want to hold off on adding him, despite his pedigree as an elite prospect. This season at Toledo he hit .276/.343/.450 with 18 homers and four stolen bases over 595 PA. If you're in a keeper league, he's a recommended addition, though he might not break spring training next season on the active roster. Mixed: $1; AL: $5.

Trevor Crowe, Astros - Crowe has shifted around the Astros outfield plenty, since coming back up when rosters expanded earlier this month. As of late, he's been splitting time between left and center field. At Triple-A Oklahoma City he hit .304/.364/.388 with three homers and 16 stolen bases over 264 PA. Since coming back up with the Astros he's hit .304/.328/.393 with five doubles over 56 at-bats. Unfortunately he doesn't have much power and his speed will only take him so far, so he's not of much use in mixed leagues. Mixed: $4; AL: $15.

David DeJesus, Rays - When DeJesus came over from the Cubs, he initially played somewhat sparingly, but that has changed as of late, as he's played in five of the Rays last six games between left and right field. With the team, he has hit .264/.361/.340 with one stolen base over 61 PA. He showed better power when he was younger and in his prime, but now at 33 years old, he can't be counted on much. He's a career .290/.366/.447 hitter against RHPs over 3,796 PA, so he team is using him as a leadoff hitter against RHPs, but even that might not bring up his value enough for consideration in most mixed leagues. Mixed: $6; AL: $24.

Marc Krauss & J.D. Martinez, Astros - Krauss has been a factor lately for the Astros as their DH and sometimes left-fielder. At Triple-A Oklahoma City this season he hit .281/.401/.478 with 10 homers and three stolen bases over 314 PA. At 25 years old, he is not considered a prospect, though he did show some nice power earlier in his minor league days. For Martinez (wrist), he was activated off the 15-day DL on Friday, but has yet to see any playing time. On the season he has hit .256/.280/.392 with seven homers and two stolen bases over 287 PA. He should at some point start to see some starts in left field, but there's already a logjam of guys there with Trevor Crowe, Chris Carter, and Krauss. Both - Mixed: $3; AL: $10.
