The Diamondbacks released Graterol from his minor-league contract Aug. 1.
ANALYSIS
The 33-year-old backstop slashed .255/.299/.358 with two home runs and three stolen bases across 147 plate appearances at Reno before being cut loose. Graterol may be running out of time to catch on with another organization before the end of the 2022 campaign.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2017
Catchers are held to a much lower standard, offensively, than players at other positions. Graterol fails to clear that lower bar, or even come close to it. He has never hit more than four home runs in any profession season, and he posted an almost unfathomable 16 wRC+ in the big leagues last year (100 is average). As a 28-year-old, Graterol walked at just a 1.1 percent clip (4.1 percent at Triple-A) and managed a 21.9 percent hard-hit rate. His defense has kept him on the Angels' 40-man roster to this point in the winter, and it's possible he remains in the backup role behind Martin Maldonado to begin 2018, but even if an injury were to open up more playing time, Graterol would have minimal appeal. Most fantasy players would be better off taking a zero at the position rather than a negative as Graterol would likely be.
Graterol has spent time in numerous organizations over the years, but 2016 marked the first time he could actually scrape his way onto a major league roster. The 27-year-old didn't display much power during his time with Triple-A Salt Lake, but his strong .300 batting average and .340 on-base percentage helped him stick around in the organization and even garner a call-up when the Angels were in need of another catcher. He was extremely limited in his opportunities, but he filled the third-string catcher role admirably, going 4-for-14 with two doubles and three RBI. He was claimed by the Blue Jays over the offseason, and he'll likely compete with A.J. Jimenez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia for the privilege of backing up veteran catcher Russell Martin.
