2024 Fantasy Outlook
Had Iglesias not missed the first month of the season with a right shoulder strain, he may have challenged for the National League lead in saves. He finished with 33 (T-8th in the league), which was still an impressive total given the missed time. The Cuban native also had no trouble stepping right back into closing duties after after pitching in a setup role for Atlanta during the second-half of 2022. Performance-wise, Iglesias was consistent as ever, though his WHIP did suffer with an elevated BABIP. A pitch mix adjustment saw him throw his changeup as his primary for the first time in his career. He increased his usage of the pitch by +11.3%, which makes sense given it's his best offering besides his slider. On the flip side, Iglesias' fastball (.327 BAA) and sinker got crushed (.519 BAA) last season. If that trend continues, it will be interesting to see if the veteran closer scales back on those pitches. Iglesias is a top 5 closer option again for 2024. Read Past Outlooks
Looks sharp Monday
Iglesias walked one and struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.
ANALYSIS
The Atlanta closer followed Spencer Strider in the game and took over for the sixth inning, fanning Willi Castro and Carlos Santana before escaping a bit of a jam created by an error on the part of minor-league second baseman Luke Waddell. Iglesias has a 4:2 K:BB through three spring innings, and he appears on track to be ready for Opening Day after reaching 30 saves for the fourth time in his career in 2023.

Nine months after signing a 4-year pact with the Angels, Iglesias was traded to Atlanta in a surprising deadline deal that saw the veteran's role change from closer to setup man. Perhaps Los Angeles was scared off by a slight dip in velocity - Iglesias averaged 95 mph on his fastball; a 1.3 mph drop from 2021 - but the righty was still very effective and posted numbers right in line with his recent seasons. It was his fourth straight year with a strikeout rate over 30% and sixth season (of eight in his career) that he posted a sub-2.75 ERA. Iglesias was especially dominant over the final two months of 2022, which may have flown under the radar since he wasn't closing for Atlanta. In 26.1 innings (28 appearances) with the Braves, the Cuban native only gave up one run (0.34 ERA) while recording a 0.84 WHIP and 15 holds. Atlanta clearly had long-term plans for Iglesias upon acquiring him, but whether that's as a closer or setup man still remains to be seen.
